What we believe
- That all life on earth is interconnected and must therefore be respected and embraced - that humans are only one strand in an intricate web binding us all from protozoa to pachyderm
- That each and every human being can make a choice in their daily lives which creates positive change in the world at large
- That change IS possible and we must be that change
- That companies should not profit from the suffering or disenfranchisement of others
- That human beings need to make a radical change in the way they interact with the world
- That action is the only true manifestation of intent - all the good intentions in the world are a wonderful excuse to never do anything
- That money is a means, not an end
Veganism...for us
Veganism is a touchy subject. Everyone has a different opinion as to what
that means exactly. One of the most widely accepted definitions is:
"No use of any animal product in any facet of one's life."
Because very few of us are vegan from birth, this translates differently for people. For
instance, once people become vegan, they may choose to dispose of
everything in their household which is animal-based; food, clothing,
furniture, toiletries, accessories...nothing is spared.
Other people,
often for environmental reasons, are loathe to waste anything once it has
been made into a product. Therefore, some vegans may keep leather belts,
shoes, purses or other items which will have a long life. This prevents
the purchasing of new items to replace the old, often saving on pollution
and chemical usage inherent within the manufacturing process.
Here at Comondi, we believe it is important to recognize that our society is
built on the backs of animals, literally and figuratively. Animal products are
in practically everything we use on a day to day basis. If you go to the movies,
gelatin is used in the film spinning through the projector. Car and bicycle
tires have animals in them. Most of our plastic involves animals at some stage
in the manufacturing process. Wine and beer often involve animal products.
Veganism, to us, means recognizing our connection to other species. It
means making the best effort possible not to use animal products in our
day to day lives, not to wear them, not to eat them, not to slather them
on our bodies. However, we believe that complete purity is an
impossibility in North American society. We strive to bring you products
which have not involved animal suffering in any way but there is the
possibility that the grease used to lubricate a manufacturer's machinery
is animal based or that some secondary element in its manufacture was from an
animal source.
We hope to one day be part of a society where no
animal has to suffer or die for the use of humankind. But, we're not
there yet. Comondi is just a beginning.
