FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. Do you ship to the States?
Yes, we happily ship to the States!
2. Do you ship internationally?
Please contact us directly about international shipping so that we can
arrange the most cost-effective transaction for you.
3. Why are some of the prices so expensive?
We would love to offer all our products at bargain basement prices but the
reality is that our society does not support truly ethical, fair trade,
vegan production methods. The products that you buy in most stores are
made with low-quality materials obtained in ecologically and socially
destructive ways. They are often manufactured in sweatshop environments
by children and adults who barely make a living wage but translate into
"great low prices for the whole family!"
We have put extensive time and effort into sourcing out products that are
as low-impact as possible, will last a very long time and DO NOT HARM
ANIMALS. Sometimes this means importing which translates into customs
duties, brokerage fees, shipping costs and currency conversion. This does
add up.
Most of our manufacturers are small, home-based businesses handmaking
their products with personal attention and cruelty-free ingredients.
Otherwise, they are paying fair wages and insurance benefits to their
workers while purchasing more expensive base materials such as organic
cotton.
We fully agree that some of our products are far more expensive in monetary
terms than those you can buy elsewhere but if those prices actually accounted
for the toll they take on the earth, indigenous people, animals and our collective
well-being our prices would seem ridiculously cheap in comparison.
We want our customers to know that we are not falsely inflating our
prices. In actual fact, we lower our margins significantly on many items
so that more households will purchase vegan, ecologically sustainable
products. This can only mean good news for everyone.
4. Why don't you carry clothing?
Although it is not written in stone that we will never carry clothing, at
present we feel there is a fantastic variety of clothing available in the
second-hand market at very low cost. One of the creeds we live by is
"Re-use" and with clothing we feel this is particularly easy and
enjoyable. Value Village is one of our favourite haunts where we find
stylish, unique items that would otherwise be landfill. Please consider
visiting a second-hand store for your next clothing purchase. It is truly
an eye-opening experience. Although we have on occasion purchased hemp or
organic cotton clothes, it has been some time since any of us stepped into
a "new" clothing store.
We do carry socks, underwear and some accessory items that can otherwise
be "icky" to buy second-hand. :-)
5. Why don't you carry food?
We feel there are a lot of vegan options out there from countless stellar
companies without adding to the fray. We wanted to focus on items that
are more difficult to find. Vegan food seems to be popping up everywhere,
even in your local grocery store. There are even vegan cookie companies
who will ship you a box a month. Yum!!
