There are many hemp companies around these days but we felt that none matched the exceptional quality and ecological integrity of the Ecolution® line. Although we must import these products from Romania (reflected in their higher price over domestic brands) we felt we wanted to offer our customers the best hemp goods available.

ORGANIC FARMING
Conventional hemp farming is already very ecological since hemp requires no herbicides, pesticides, or irrigation and leaves the ground in a healthy condition. The next ecological step is to eliminate the use of synthetic fertilizers and attain organic certification. Since 2001, ECOLUTION® has been cultivating hemp organically in the Satu Mare area of western Romania. As pioneers in developing organically grown fiber hemp, they cultivated a relationship with a farmers' cooperative, convinced them to work with organic agriculture, and then invested in this farming experiment directly by paying significantly more for the organically grown hemp.

FAIR TRADE
ECOLUTION® firmly believes in fair trade. They do not employ children and ensure that their employees have safe working conditions and opportunities for advancement. Because they officially employ their workers and pay all taxes for their labour, the Romanian government provides them with medical insurance and pension coverage. On the U.S. side of their enterprise, they provide all full-time employees with health insurance.

CHEMICAL-FREE PROCESSING
The chemical-free processing method used by ECOLUTION® gently coaxes out the beautiful and rich natural essence of hemp fiber. This is accomplished with a series of increasingly fine mechanical combings done in two stages known as scutching and hackling, the traditional methods used for hemp processing in Eastern Europe. Their natural, chemical-free hemp fabric is healthy for the skin; this is particularly important for people with allergies and chemical sensitivities. Their environmentally-sound processing preserves the innate integrity of hemp fiber with its long molecular structure and inherent strength and durability. This natural processing distinguishes their line, making it superior to chemically processed and cottonized short-fiber hemp products from China. Chemical processing, which pulps the fiber with heavy caustic sodas and acid rinses, strips the fiber of much of its rich character and strength and produces hazardous, environmentally-destructive waste.

NATURAL DYES
ECOLUTION® colours are environmentally sound; natural dyes are made from plants and all other colours from fiber-reactive dyes.

BIODEGRADABLE
Hemp fabric is very resistant to degradation from mold, bacteria, salt water, sunlight, abrasion, and chemicals, while being fully biodegradable (unlike synthetic fibers).
