Through interviews, poetry and music, the human storytellers in Songs of the Earth evoke the richness and wonder of the ways of animals. They speak of language, intelligence, intent, grace, compassion, and love, each providing a window into the worlds of the animals they have known. Though each person has their own way of relating to and understanding these other cultures, they have all crossed the imaginary species line - that human-defined line which continues to justify exploitation and suffering of the animal nations.
There are also stories from the perspectives of animals - stories that defy literal translation and challenge the perceptions of those watching. We can never truly know what is being shared with us, but by opening our minds to the blurring of boundaries we begin to understand that the peoples of the earth do not only walk in human skin.
